I have been able to make Gmail accounts without phone verification for quite some time now. However, today, I tried to make a new Gmail account, and it said it wanted to "verify it was really me". It technically said a phone number was 'required' to make a Gmail account. Seriously? I have made accounts without a phone number before! Why is it all of a sudden making me add a phone number?

It will not accept a landline and you know it! Plus, how can I use a friend's phone when I don't even have one in hand? It makes NO SENSE. Plus, I have TRIED to go to YouTube to set up, and that did not work. I was ABLE to make an account before with the phone number verification being optional, but it doesn't work anymore.

I am STRUGGLING! Can't you tell? I have done EVERYTHING possible, and NOTHING HAS WORKED! I will not tell you again: I have created several accounts before, and the phone verification was optional. Now, I have to input a phone number when I can't use one? WHY?! I swear, Google is so invasive.

Please tell me why I can't create an account! I was able to do it very easily before, but now I can't even get past the second stage!

Eventually, I was able to login using my phone and then could change the phone number in the Google account. But, we should be able to use the alternate methods as listed in our accounts!

I even used a phone number I never used on google before to try and still doesn't work..

I just recently switched to a new device and new phone number. When I try to login to my Gmail account, the attempt is being denied because my new device is not recognized. I do remember the email and also the password very well. However, the given solution is to access my previous device or previous phone number, while I can't access both of it any longer.

"This phone number cannot be used for verification" explains why a number is needed to verify your account via SMS or a voice call. If Google require a number, and you cannot provide one, or you cannot open an account using the methods described above, then Google will not let you open the account.

If you can't recover the account, you are unable to reuse the same account name; these are never recycled by Google. Data in the deleted account will not be available, unless this option is offered by Google. It may not be.

For one, I can't use my home phone. My parents won't let me use it. Two, I don't have a friend's or neighbor's phone number to use for the set up. Three, I can't use online SMS phone numbers, because I am either given "This phone number cannot be used for verification.", or "This phone number has been used too many times."
